Calibration For Dispensing Thick or Thin Non-Flammable Liquids

The Sotera 800 Series meter will accurately monitor the volume of virtually any non-flammable liquid, thick or thin, by using the CAL factor, shown in the bottom left corner of the LCD display.

At the factory every meter is individually calibrated with water on CAL 4 then checked for proper accuracy and operation.

The thinner the fluid, the lower the CAL number. The thicker the fluid, the higher the CAL number. CAL 4 is set for a fluid like water. CAL 19, the highest number, is set for very thick fluids lie cold molasses. Each number changes the meter display by about 1%.

The CAL factor setting for common fluids is as follows:
  • CAL 4: Water
  • CAL 6: Kerosene
  • CAL 8: Household detergents
  • CAL10: Anti-Freeze @ 70 degrees Fahrenheit
  • CAL 12: Corn Oil @ 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • CAL 14: 10 WT. Oil @ 70 degrees Fahrenheit
  • CAL 15: 30 WT. Oil @ 70 degrees Fahrenheit
  • CAL 17 60-90 Wt. Oil @ 70 degrees Fahrenheit
  • CAL 19: Molasses @ 32 degrees Fahrenheit

Using the CAL factor is a simple way to change calibrations between different fluids. Once you determine what CAL factor works best for your fluid, there is no need to dispense into proving cans when you want to change into another fluid. Simply hold button (3) until the display only shows CAL and number, press (3) repeatedly until you reach the desired number, and press (2) to return to normal operating mode.
