Diaphragm Pumps

Diaphragm Pumps

A diaphragm pump is a positive displacement pump that uses the reciprocating action of a rubber diaphragm and suitable check valves to pump fluids. No metals parts are in contact with the liquid at anytime. Diaphragm pumps have excellent self priming capabilities, can run dry for short periods without damage and can handle liquids up to 130 degrees. Sometimes this type of pump is also called a membrane pump. A positive displacement pumps traps a fixed amount of liquid then forces (displaces) that trapped volume into the discharge pipe. Liquid flows into the pump as the cavity on the suction side expands and the liquid flows out of the discharge as the cavity collapses. The volume is practically constant in each cycle of operation.
