Spot And Boom Sprayer Information

FLOJET pumps are commonly used on a variety of spot sprayers and small Estate Sprayers with a single fixed or adjustable tip wand. Frequently a spot sprayer and a small boom sprayer are combined on the same rig. Also one of the more popular agriculture uses for FLOJET pumps is for small boom sprayers. A spot spray wand attachments is often combined on the same rig.

Spot Sprayer Information

  • FLOJET pumps are commonly used on a variety of spot sprayers and small Estate Sprayers with a single fixed or adjustable tip wand. Frequently a spot sprayer and a small boom sprayer are combined on the same rig.
  • The rig is used by farmers and home owners for spot or swath spraying of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizer on fence rows, pathways, turf areas, road shoulders etc.
  • Tank sizes may vary, however a 14 gallon capacity is very common. The pump is usually mounted on top of the tank and must prime and lift up to 2 or 3 feet. An inlet filter should be used to prevent solid matter from entering the pump or clogging the spray nozzle. The motor is a Total Enclosed Non Ventilated type and is splash proof, however protecting the pump from weather will help to prolong pump and motor life.
  • The outlet hose may be up to 10 or 15 feet with a hand gun and wand. A demand (pressure switch) type pump usually most suitable since it will operate automatically only when spraying. The demand models, however will run continuously if the tank is allowed to run dry and must be turned off manually if this occurs. A bypass pump may also be used, however, it will run continuously while the sprayer is in use and care must be taken not to allow the pump to run for long periods of total bypass. In both cases, it is important to select a pump with performance to match the flow and pressure requirements of the tip being used. See the technical pump installation manual.
  • 12 and 24 volt models are available and can be connected to the vehicle DC system or a separate battery can be used for power. A manual on-off switch and fuse should always be used in the positive line between the pump and battery.
  • The FLOJET pumps for agriculture spraying use are fitted with Santoprene (EDPN), Buna-N or Viton diaphragm/check valve materials which are resistant to most of the popular chemicals, however, it is advisable to check a Chemical Resistant Guide to select the best material. With strong chemicals it is always advisable to flush the pump and system with water after each use.

Boom Sprayer Information

  • One of the more popular agriculture uses for FLOJET pumps is for small boom sprayers. A spot spray wand attachments is often combined on the same rig.
  • The rig is used for field spraying of pesticides and herbicides in smaller field areas, orchards, road shoulders, etc.
  • The spray rig is generally mounted on All Terrain Vehicle, garden tractor or small trailer for towing.
    • Tank sizes may vary, however, a 14 gallon capacity is very common.
    • The pump is usually mounted on top of the tank and must prime and lift up to 2 or 3 feet.
    • An inlet filter should be used to prevent solid matter from entering the pump or clogging the spray nozzle.
    • The motor is a Totally Enclosed Non Ventilated type and is splash proof.
    • Protecting the pump from weather will help to prolong pump and motor life.
  • The pump may be a demand (Pressure Switch) or Internal Bypass type.
  • As the spray control valve is opened and closed the demand pump will be turned on and off automatically by the pressure switch.
    • The demand models will run continuously if the tank is allowed to run dry and must be turned off manually if this occurs.
    • With the bypass pump, when the valve is closed the pump will continue to run and re-circulate through the internal bypass.
    • When the valve is opened flow and pressure are restored to the boom nozzles, care should be taken not to allow the bypass pump to run at total bypass (with the spray valve closed) for long periods.
  • The boom may have four to eight nozzles and it is important, especially with a demand pump, to select a pump with performance to match the flow and pressure requirements for the combination of tips on the boom and alternate operation of the spot spray wand only if used.
  • 12 and 24 volt models are available and are usually connected to the vehicle DC electrical system.
    • A manual on-off switch and fuse should always be used in the positive line between the pump and battery.

  • With strong chemicals, it is always advisable to flush the pump out with water after each use.
