Polypropylene pipe and fittings can be used for industrial applications involving corrosive media. Polypropylene is the lightest of all thermoplastics. It has good resistance to strong acids except highly active oxidizers, such as nitric acid. Polypropylene also has excellent resistance to weak and strong alkalis and to most organic solvents and is also a non-conductor of electricity. Polypropylene fittings are designed for temperatures up to 140 deg F at 75 PSI. The UL temperature index is reported for three different categories: electrical, mechanical with impact, mechanical without impact. The evaluation for each category represents the temperature at which specific properties will decrease to ½ of their original values after 60,000 hours of exposure. These guidelines should not be used as specific limits or used alone to determine suitability for end use.
